The reputed village of Matala, Crete

The ancient palace of Faistos

 

Phaestos is an ancient city on the island of Crete. The palace of Faistos is located in the south-central part of the island, approximately 5 kilometres from Pitsidia.


Ancient Agia Triada

This archaeological area was named after the small church of Agia Triada, located in the southwestern part of the archaeological area. During the Minoan Era a road started from Phaestos and ended at the royal villa of Agia Triada.


Agiofarago

Agiofarago is a small canyon (faraggi) south of Matala and west of the area Kalous Limenes in the prefecture of Heraklion. It received its name because of the fact that it was used by many hermits who lived there due to its isolation. According to legend, three hundred hermits lived there under conditions of complete isolation, even amongst themselves.
